Jennifer E. Van Pelt, M.A., is a Senior Research Analyst and Senior Hospital Consultant for Hayes, Inc. She is responsible for researching and tracking overall health technology trends and the impact of new and emerging medical technologies for the Hayes horizon scanning service, Technology Prognosis. Ms. Van Pelt also creates and delivers educational seminars on horizon scanning methodology and emerging technology trends, and supports other Hayes products and custom research projects. She also works on research and consulting projects for Hayes hospital clients.
Ms. Van Pelt has more than 15 years experience in health technology assessment, horizon scanning, hospital/health system consulting, and medical writing. Prior to working for Hayes, Inc., she managed a health technology forecasting service and researched and wrote technology assessment reports on emerging healthcare technologies. As a consultant, Ms. Van Pelt conducted strategic technology planning, equipment/facilities planning, and departmental productivity studies in hospitals and health systems, both in the United States and internationally. Her past consulting work has included:
- tracking emerging technologies in critical hospital service lines for community and academic medical facilities
- devising a multi-year strategic technology plan for three clinical service lines at two Australian hospitals
- new technology planning for imaging, endoscopy, and rehabilitation services at several U.S. hospitals
- coordinating equipment planning for the renovation of existing operating suites into new minimally invasive and endovascular surgical suites at a major New York medical center
- evaluating radiation oncology technology upgrade/replacement strategies for a comprehensive cancer center.
Ms. Van Pelt has also written more than 25 articles on new technologies and trends in medical imaging for Radiology Today, a newsmagazine for radiology professionals, and recently published articles on horizon scanning and health technology assessment in Healthcare Purchasing News and America’s Health Insurance Plans Coverage.
