Mercedes McLaughlin

Managing Editor, Hayes Health Technology Brief Service

Mercedes McLaughlin oversees the Hayes Health Technology Brief Service and manages the company’s production of brief health technology assessment reports, which evaluate the efficacy and safety of devices, drugs, and biologics. She also supervises and trains Hayes’ Medical Research Analysts. Prior to this role, she served as Senior Medical Research Analyst, conducting medical literature database searches, evaluating evidence on health technologies, and writing health technology assessment reports.

Ms. McLaughlin has over 20 years of experience in medical technology data evaluation. Prior to joining Hayes in 1993, McLaughlin spent a decade working as a medical literature analyst for a firm specializing in medical litigation and product liability issues. In this role, she analyzed and critically appraised biomedical literature and prepared proprietary reports. She has also worked as a freelance medical writer and editor, researching and writing articles on a wide range of healthcare topics for lay and professional audiences. Her published work has appeared in the lay press, in various medical encyclopedias, and on consumer health websites. She has been a member of the American Medical Writers Association since 1991.

McLaughlin holds a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry from Alvernia College.
