Evidence-Based Technology Acquisition: Clinical Perspective
I. Evidence-Based Technology Acquisition: Clinical Perspective
Part 1 of a 2-part series
This 3-hour workshop guides physicians through the process of implementing and utilizing an Evidence-Based Technology Acquisition (EBTA) system. As the first of a 2-part program, this session provides an opportunity for physician leaders to develop in-depth knowledge of the steps, required resources, challenges, and expected rewards associated with the introduction of an evidence-based process for adoption of health technologies.
Participants will leave with a strong commitment to and a clear understanding of EBTA, and how this program can be used routinely within their departments. The second workshop in this series provides hands-on practice of these concepts using actual, high-interest examples. At the conclusion of the 2-part series, participants will be prepared to implement and utilize an EBTA system in their own departments and institutions.
II. Evidence-Based Technology Acquisition: Clinical Perspective
Part 2 of a 2-part series
This session will guide physicians through the process of implementing and utilizing an Evidence-Based Technology Acquisition (EBTA) system. By exploring high-interest examples that illustrate how clinical evidence, operational aspects, and financial issues are combined to guide decisions in an EBTA approach, participants will evaluate evidence on clinical effectiveness for 2 state-of-the-art technologies and make mock acquisition decisions within groups. Participants will also explore the financial and organizational impact of the technology using an ExcelÒ-based calculator.
Participants will leave with a strong commitment to and a clear understanding of EBTA and how this program can be used routinely within their departments. By the conclusion of the 2-part series, participants will be prepared to implement and utilize an EBTA system in their own departments and institutions.
Who Should Attend this Series: Physicians who have a stake in the impact of technology acquisition decisions on facilities, resources, and patient care at their hospital. Completion of Part 1 is a prerequisite for participation in Part 2.
