Clinical Variation Reduction and Product Standardization: April 23rd, 2:30 pm – 3:30 pm
Dr. Winifred S. Hayes, CEO of Hayes, Inc. and Dr Richard Vath, CMO of FMOLHS in Baton Rouge, LA, will describe the evidence-based initiative that has revolutionized FMOLHS’ approach to managing PPIs—–with strong buy-in from their physicians, substantial cost savings and enhanced likelihood of measurable reduction in clinical practice variation. Processes, research methods, and resources will be reviewed. A case study demonstrating FMOLHS’ success with evidence-based standardization and utilization management of surgical mesh will be reviewed and discussed.

Dr. Petra Nass, Senior Medical Research Analyst at Hayes, Inc., will be presenting a poster entitled, “Photovoice : The Use of Photography in Participatory Health Research & Integrated Care.” Photovoice is a method in which patients take photographs that best represent their views, perspectives, and challenges of living with a health condition. Although photovoice has been extensively used in participatory action research projects, especially for engaging ethnic minorities and other underserved populations, its use in PHR is novel. The presentation will provide an overview of the applications of photography in PHR and integrated care and for reaching out to underserved populations.
