Updated Nutrition Therapy Recommendations for Diabetes and Prediabetes

The American Diabetes Association released an updated consensus report on medical nutrition therapy (MNT) for adults with diabetes or prediabetes. Key recommendations include:

  • Refer adults with type 1 or type 2 diabetes to individualized diabetes-focused MNT upon diagnosis and as needed throughout their life.

  • Refer adults who have prediabetes and are overweight or obese to intensive lifestyle intervention programs and/or individualized diabetes-focused MNT.

  • Macronutrient composition should be based on the patient’s metabolic goals, level of physical activity, food preferences, and availability.

USPSTF Updates Blood Lead Level Screening Guidelines

The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) published updated recommendations on blood lead level screening in children and pregnant women. The guideline states that evidence is insufficient to recommend for or against screening blood lead levels in asymptomatic children aged ≤ 5 years or pregnant women. More Information.
